Some of my all-time favorite movies are James Bond movies.  From the 1950s to the upcoming release of “Quantum of Solace” this November, the movies have always featured the latest technology gadgets (thanks to Q), fast and chic cars (Kris is all into that!) and of course new forms of communication using technology.  But the question is– what if James Bond was online, or even on a social networking web site.  Your first reaction would be– no, it’s not secure enough.  Well, welcome to the new age of communication for spies like James Bond!

When I first saw this story, I was like– whoa!  This something that you don’t read about everyday!  Basically the article discusses how social networking sites have become part of our culture and everyone seems to use this to communicate with each other– even spies! CNN first reported that the CIA and FBI were working hard to establish a site for their agent so they could communicate with other in a secured online setting.  Michael Wertheimer, who is the assistant deputy director of the National Intelligence for Analysis said the following about this social networking site for spies (A-Space):

“It’s every bit Facebook and YouTube for spies, but it’s much, much more.  It’s a place where not only spies can meet but share data they’ve never been able to share before. This is going to give them for the first time a chance to think out loud, think in public amongst their peers, under the protection of an A-Space umbrella.”

I thought that this was interesting because it goes to show that social networking is becoming more of how we communicate with each other– and it’s becoming part of our daily lives.  The thing that I found interesting is the fact that this story even discusses this site– I thought that this would be classified heavily and not made public.

Hmm– I wonder what James Bond, Jason Bourne (“Bourne Surpremacy”), or Harry Tasker’s (“True Lies”) pages would look like?  Likes:  Travel around the world, drinking martinis, and saving the world?  Most likely. 🙂

Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
