Even when I am on vacation, I continue to work on various things- whether it is research or preparing for conference presentations, and teach.  For example, I had the chance today to guest lecture for my Mom’s Introduction to Psychology class at Cal Poly today.  Dad wrote a nice blog post about my experience – thanks Dad! 🙂  The topic of my guest lecture is how to manage your reputation online.  Even though this is was a psychology course, I believe that all students today need to know how to proactively manage their personal brand and reputation online – especially when they are getting into the workplace.

This was also the first time that I used the iClicker technology in the classroom.  I included a couple of questions that asked the students if they used social media and if they were aware that they could possibly be tracked on various web sites.  However, the interesting feedback that I got was asking the students whether or not someone had posted something about them online that presented them in a negative light.  Out of the class, 79 percent said yes – which was surprising to me.

It was really fun presenting to the students, and in a way – I felt like I came full circle.  I remember growing up and going to both Mom and Dad’s classes and watching them teach and interact with their students.  Now, I had the chance to teach in front of my Mom – which was very exciting. 🙂  Thank you Mom for allowing me to come to your class and present to your students. 🙂

I hope that you all are having a great day. 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen
