Day One in Beijing!!!!

My sister Kristin and I have been enjoying the sights, sounds and delicious flavors of China!

When we first started studying what to see and do when we went to Beijing, we obviously looked at a few lists that others had put together. Here are a few ideas:

Beijing Capital Museum

Visit Fayuan Si, the Temple of the Source of Buddhist Doctrine
Beijing World Park

Temple of Heaven (Tiantan)

Great Wall (Badaling, Juyongguan, Mutianyu, Simatai and Jinshanling sections of the Great Wall)

Make a day trip to Xiang Shan (Fragrant Hill) and Bayun Si (the Temple of the Azure Cloud)
Forbidden City or Gu Gong

Summer Palace (Yihejuan) located about 10 miles outside of Beijing on Fu Hai Lake

Tiananmen (Square) means Heavenly Peace Gate

Great Hall of the People

Beijing Underground City

Shichahai area (Hutong Pedicab Tour and Courtyard Culture)

Ming Tombs (13 tombs)
Ancient Observatory

In our family, all of us are foodies and ‘super-tasters’, except poor Mom. So naturally, I would place in the list of cultural offerings any interesting restaurant that offers something interesting, authentic or wonderful! What better way to understand a culture but to study their food?

There are many interesting & new restaurants built to offer beautiful and scrumptious dishes to 2008 Olympic travelers. However, I will be looking to sample the everyday and special occasion foods of the people of Beijing.
