It was announced today that Marion Jones’ sample B test came back negative, which will allow her to compete at this year’s World Cup event.  Her first sample tested positive for EPO back at the US National Championships in Indianapolis.  IAAF wants a formal notification from the lab that says that Jones’ results for her “B” sample were negative.

Jones made the following statement through her lawyers:  “I am absolutely ecstatic.  I have always maintained that I have never ever taken performance-enhancing drugs, and I am pleased that a scientific process has now demonstrated that fact.”

In my blog, I have a lot of posts dealing with the issue of drugs in track and field and what my views are on the matter.  Even though there are people out there that feel that Jones is “clear” of taking drugs, her reputation may be affected anyway by this issue.  In almost every article that has been written about her, the issue of drugs and the BALCO scandal have always been mentioned.  With the internet– articles, web sites, blogs, you name it– it is available to everyone and the information is not going to go away.  In my opinion, Jones may be clear to compete, but this incident with her drug test will follow her.

There never seems to be a dull moment now in track and field– I think they need to do a TV drama about it!

Karen’s Public Relations Blog » FINALLY, the truth at last: Marion Jones admits to the Washington Post on taking steroids · October 4, 2007 at 8:38 pm

[…] I had written several posts on Jones and how her reputation has been impacted negatively due to the fact that she was linked to the BALCO case, and everyone had their doubts.  Now, there is a chance that she could face jail time, lose her Olympic medals, and will be remembered as the sprinter that used steroids to win three gold medals in 2000.  Is this what Jones wanted to be known for?  I seriously doubt it.
