Athletes who are under the age of 23 (that would not be me, I’m already 23) are eligible to compete in the NACAC Championships, currently underway in the Dominican Republic.  One of the nicknames that was given to me while I was on the team was “Grandma” because I was one of the oldest athletes on the team!  Yikes! 😀

Although I studied Spanish in high school, our vocabulary didn’t extend to track and field events. 😀 It’s fun to try and figure out what’s happening. If you get stuck, you just look to see the names of the people competing. My event, the women’s shot put, is Hembras Lanzamiento de Bala. That sounds pretty!

If I’m reading this correctly, it looks like the USA took 1-2 in the shot, with Southern Illinois’ Amarachi Ukabam besting Texas’ Michelle Carter.  Congrats ladies!

The USC Trojans are well-represented at the meet. Kate Hutchinson throws the discus later this evening. In yesterday’s events, Carol Rodriguez, who competes internationally for Puerto Rico, scored a third in the 100m. Lionel Larry qualified for the 400m finals, and Duane Solomon qualified for the 800m finals.  FIGHT ON! 😀
