In Public Relations, we talk about how articles and news stories sometimes focus on one angle or point of view regarding an issue. I think that this is the case when we look at the issue of steroids and athletes. There are a ton of news articles and PR nightmare cases involving the issue of athletes testing positive for steroids. But are athletes the majority of steroid users? Not according to a Time Magazine article— the people that are using steroids are those that are not in sports, and want to “look good.”
I thought that this article is interesting for many reasons. First, it shows that the people that you see practically living in the gym might have gotten a little help. Also, it shows that the type of person that people may immediately think of when talking about steroids is someone different. With all of the articles and coverage that athletes have gotten regarding steroids, there really hasn’t been that much focus on people that are not in athletics that take steroids. Personally, I believe that the issue of steroids needs to be addressed not only in athletics, but in our society as well.
I hope that you all are having a great day!
Best Wishes,
Karen 🙂
