One of the more important lessons that I had to learn during my internship in South Africa is the fact that our group is not only representing USC, but also Americans in general!  It was interesting for me to talk to my friends and co-workers in South Africa and find out what comes to mind when they think about Americans and the American Experience.

They asked me a lot about what it was like living and going to school in LA.  I said that it was really great– USC is a wonderful school and I really enjoyed my time as a Trojan! 🙂  Some people that I met in South Africa have been to the States, but many said that it was their dream to be able to come to the United States for a visit.  They asked me which city they should visit to get “the real view of the USA.”

Well, I told them that if they had to pick one city that they could go to– I told them New York.  I love NYC– I remember going there each year to visit Kristin at West Point– so much to do and see!  But, I also told them that there are other things that represents the USA as well.  Other cities that I suggested that they go and see included LA, Chicago, Miami, and Austin.  One thing that got everyone really excited were cowboys– they thought that was SO cool!  I agree– I really like it (I was born in Texas and spent my freshman year at SMU.)

I took these pictures when my family and I went to the Mid State Fair last weekend.  As you can see, the cowboy is on his horse talking on his cell phone.  Classic! 🙂  I thought my SA Friends would like to see it! 🙂

Have a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
