I felt when my classmates and I were at Kruger National Park, I saw some of the animals and I was like, “Well– I ate that, and that… and that!”  One of the main meals that I had in South Africa was of course ostrich– it was delicious! 🙂  There are so many things that you can do with ostriches in terms of meals, plus it is pretty healthy to eat! 🙂

Today, I saw the real thing!  I saw a few ostriches when we visited Robben Island and around Stellenbosch, but when Dad told me that there was an ostrich farm in Watsonville (near Santa Cruz, California)– I was really surprised!  The farm is called Ostrich Growers, and they really gave us a fun tour of their farm and their ostriches!  Thank you so much! 🙂

So, we all took a mini road trip up to Watsonville and visited the ostrich farm.  Dad had ordered some ostrich meat for our South African braii we are going to have soon, and we all wanted to meet the animals!   We got a tour of the farm and saw a TON of ostriches!  Small, medium, and large– they had it all!  One of the big highlights for me was when I got to hold a baby ostrich– it was so tiny and cute, and only two days old!  I wanted to take it home with me! I am not sure how our cats would react to it…. 🙂

After our adventure with the ostriches, we headed to Castroville, the land of the artichoke!  I absolutely love artichokes, and they have this restaurant called “The Giant Artichoke“– it was amazing!  A must go to if you are in the area!  They have all different sorts of artichokes– regular, fried, soups, and even bread! 🙂  Two thumbs up! 🙂

Thank you again Ostrich Growers for giving us a great tour of your ostriches! 🙂

Have a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
