Quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots

There are moments in where a photograph speaks a thousand words.  One of the interesting stories that has been popular among television stations and web sites has been surrounding Patriot’s Quarterback Tom Brady.  Brady and the rest of the Patriot Team are preparing to meet with the New York Giants for the Super Bowl in Arizona.  But this is not why Brady is in the news now– really you ask?  Well, it seems that on the way to his girlfriend’s place, Brady was photographed wearing a walking cast on his right foot.  What was his response to reporters asking what was going on?

“Ah, you know, there’s always bumps and bruises. I’ll be ready for the Super Bowl. I’m not missing this one. I’d have to be on a stretcher to miss this one. There will be treatment this week. In games like this, you get a little nicked up. It’s nothing serious.”

Interesting.  In terms of a PR angle, this can work in the benefit for both teams heading to their Super Bowl match up.  The Giants may use this to their advantage in their plays and preparation for the big game.  On the other hand, the Patriots might let people think that their star quarterback is “injured”, and then surprise everyone at the game.

On the other hand, this could cause a lot of speculation and worry among certain target audiences.  The Giants fans want their team to win not because one football player is injured, and the fan base for the Patriots may start asking questions and worry.  And who are the people that have to answer these questions, or at least have a hand in writing the statements and preparing for Q &A?  The PR Department of course! 🙂

It is early to tell– but it is interesting to see all of the different PR and communication strategies that are in place on both sides of the table.  I think that this game will be fun to watch! 🙂

I hope you all are having a great day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
