I have posted many times on my blog about my weight loss adventures on Jenny Craig, but it began years before. When I was in high school (1999), I got up to weighing about 348 lbs, but I believe that I was even heavier than that.  Losing the weight was probably one of the smartest things that I have done in my life so far.  It has improved my overall health, I feel more active, and I am able to wear clothes that I would have never believed that I would get into.  Since 1999 (almost ten years ago), I have lost a total to almost 150 lbs.  WOW! 🙂  That is one person (or one of Mom in this case!) 🙂

The first thing that I did in 1999 to lose weight was to first change my eating habits.  I went from drinking regular sodas, eating pizzas, and having “doughnut days” to eating healthier.  But one of the things that I did to jumpstart my weightloss back in 2000 was to increase my conditioning.  Dad signed up Mom and I to join an all-women’s gym in San Luis Obispo called Cory Iverson’s.  This was the first time that I took aerobic classes.  We did mostly step and body pump, but it helped me lose an additional 65 lbs my senior year in high school.  It really opened my eyes to what I needed to do to increase my fitness.

Since I have been at Tennessee, I have been taking their exercise classes at their Rec Center, and it has been absolutely amazing!  It’s great especially because I know that I have to workout at a certain time and it really gives you a great workout!  It’s been fun also going with a few of my friends at Tennessee as well!  The classes that I usually go to are the kickboxing, step, and cardio camp courses. I have also gone to a class called “Killer Core”– totally intense but very good! 🙂  I would say that if I was still a thrower and competing in track, I would definitely add kickboxing and these other classes to my exercise routine– they are intense, but give you a fabulous workout.

I’ve been home for a couple of days, and I was thinking about ways to maintain my fitness level– and Dad came up with the suggestion that Mom and I go back to the same gym we went to eight years ago, and take the exercise classes.  The gym is now called Equilibrium Fitness, and Mom and I went to our first classes yesterday.  It was FABULOUS!  We went to a Body Pump class, and then I went to a Body Attack class.  Totally intense and I am feeling the results today– but it is a great facility, great classes, and the environment in the gym is very positive.

This vacation has also brought back many memories for me– I remember working out with Dad in track and going to these exercise classes with Mom, and it is the same now as it was when I was a thrower.  Instead, Dad and I take long walks in the morning, and Mom and I are off to classes in the afternoon.  Fitness is definitley part of the Freberg family lifestyle now and it is a fun activity to be part of! 🙂

Hope you all are having a wonderful day and happy holidays! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen
