Thanks to Lauren Weisberger who named dropped the ‘ultimate’ bag accessory the ‘Hermes Birkin Bag’ in her book entitled “Everyone Worth Knowing;” I went on the Internet to learn more. Hermes Bags have quite a history with famous personalities like Princess Grace Kelly and Jackie O. each having their ‘own.’ I discussed Lauren’s book in a previous post.
I knew the House of Hermes for two things: their wonderfully extravagant perfume and their unique scarfs. I liked the quality and they were in my price range. How often can you buy a designer anything for under $100 — but you can buy perfume.
I decided to look on-line and see if I could find any ‘discounted’ or — as they say in the ‘used car’ industry — “previously owned” Hermes Birkin Bags. Granted, you can buy a version of the Hermes Birkin bag ( named after an actress Jane Birkin) in a full range of prices some with waiting lists up to 7 years. The story of how the bag developed is an interesting one, but now seems to be the ‘signature’ bag of all divas and those who wish to be.
I did find a site that sells pre-owned bags! Now, the bag on the right above has it’s last bid at around $40,000 — and by now it is gone! wow!
