There have been a few times in my life where I stop and think– oh… my… GOD!  I remember this happened when I made the Olympic Trials finals in the shot put after a year of battling a back injury and knowing that I would have to PR by at least a couple of feet to even have a chance of making the finals.  Another time was when I got the USC School record at the USC-UCLA dual meet in 2006 and PR’ed in all of my events.

Since retiring, I have had those moments, but it has been in another arena– losing weight.  I am still amazed that it has been almost two years since I have been on Jenny Craig.  Two years and almost 85 lbs later, I look back and don’t even recognize myself.  There are a few pictures that I keep around for motivation to continue to lose weight (my family and I refer them to as the “white pants” pictures). 🙂

Anyway, back to what I was talking about– the picture above is of me back in August wearing a pair of pants that used to fit me back in high school.  I know– pretty shocking, definitely an “OMG” moment.  However I had one of those today.  Before JC, if I did well on a test or a track meet or anything like that– I would reward myself with food (what can I say, I am a foodie!) But now, I am doing this with clothes and shoes (Kris would be so proud of me!)

So, I have been working really hard in my Ph.D. program with papers, projects, teaching, and doing research– I wanted to reward myself and got myself a new suit.  And…. the size of the skirt that I got in nearly made me drop to the floor.  I was thinking… NO WAY!  I tried a 12 at first.. too big.  Same thing with a 10… 8… and 6.  Okay– I got into a size 4.  Not 24, not 14– that’s right– 4.  I was like, this can’t be happening! 🙂  It was definitely a very exciting moment for me– but still has me left totally shocked at the same time!!! 🙂
I can’t thank Jenny Craig enough for helping me lose weight and become healthier.  It has been a life changing decision, adn I am so thankful. 🙂

Hope you all are having a great day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
