Kristin playing Hicking Sack with a Local man

Visiting Temple of Heaven : Dancing, hacky sack, and shopping in Pearl Market

Kristin and I also wanted to go and see the Temple of Heaven. What an amazing site! It was located just south of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. I have really enjoyed visiting China and Beijing—there is so much history and beauty and it is everywhere!

We arrived at our first stop mid-morning by cab. That is the way to travel in Beijing because it is so affordable! The rates are low and it is easy to get around. We have traveled the metro system and we did a fair amount of walking to the Forbidden City and elsewhere — but Kristin and I realized that the best way to get around was definitely by cab. It was quick and efficient.

In the Temple of Heaven, we ran across a number of exercise groups — from people dancing to practicing tai chi—so many people and so many choices! We met a couple of Chinese locals playing hacky sack with a definite Chinese version. Kristin was pretty good and we made some friends in the process.

After visiting the Temple of Heaven, we headed to the Pearl Market to buy some souvenirs. We of course had to get some things to bring home to our friends and family, and we came away with a lot of really neat things! We got a little tired because ‘we shopped until we dropped!”. There is only so much that we can bring back with us! J

So in the five days that we have been in Beijing, Kristin and I traveled to the Great Wall, Summer Palace, Ming Tombs, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and so many other things! We have been pretty busy!

I have one full day left and then I am heading back to Tennessee to start summer school and my second year as a Ph.D. student. Amazing!

Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen :)
