As the World Turns… or it might be called “As the Baseball Turns.” It seems that most of the news coverage of baseball these past years have been either about the Red Sox winning the 2004 World Series and broke the “curse”, Barry Bonds climbing the home run all time charts, and of course– the performance enhancing drug scandal and BALCO.
Baseball Pitcher Jason Grimsley
The Los Angeles Times broke the story about pitcher Jason Grimsley and how he is accusing Roger Clemens and four other baseball players in using drugs. In June, Grimsley admitted in using HGH, or human growth hormone and steroids, which resulted in him being suspended from the Arizona Diamondbacks and 50 games. Kevin Ryan, the San Francisco District Attorney, had the following statement after this story broke:
“In view of the recent news reports purporting to identify certain athletes whose names had been redacted from the government’s search warrant filings in the Grimsley matter, and in the interests of justice, please be advised that these reports contain significant inaccuracies.”
Well– it seems that baseball has to deal with another case that could damage the sport itself. Both parties released their statements to the media, and the public will have to determine which party to believe in. One party is accusing of actions that could damage not only the athletes’ reputation, but their future in the sport.
On the other side, the athletes have to prove that they are innocent, and that these statements are false– and if they are proven innocent– there might always be a shadow following them and people may think– well, did they or didn’t they? We’ll have to see what different strategies and tactics both parties use to protect their reputations.
