It would be so very nice if every discussion of sports didn’t come back to the drug issues.

Although MLB Commish Bud Selig believes this is the “Golden Age” of baseball, many of his comments yesterday were about drugs and drug testing, not performances.

Only this year, MLB has moved to limit amphetamines, but the policy is extremely weak. A first time offender is given “counseling,” but his name won’t be publicized. Selig said the new regulations came after doctors told him, “If you don’t do something about this, somebody’s going to die.”

Selig refused to say how many players had tested positive for amphetamines. I think it would have been more effective if he had been honest about this. The numbers are what they are. By refusing to say how many players are involved, people may believe the worst–that everybody uses amphetamines.
