On your mark, get set– run, throw, and jump!!! 🙂 Right now, the World Track and Field Championships are being held in Osaka, Japan. The championships started a few days ago on August 25th, and will continue until September 2nd. IAAF is doing a very professional job with publicizing this event.
IAAF’s web site includes links to the results and news stories from each day, plus there are links to various podcasts, radio, and television interviews. It is very user friendly, which is important if you want people to visit your web site. It is also interesting to see what different public relations strategies and tactics they are using to promote the World Championships. For example, they have a link to IAAF Fantasy Athletics, which is like Fantasy Football– but for track and field! Very interesting.
I think that the challenge that the sport of track and field has to face is the fact that they do get a lot of coverage and interest in Olympic years and during World Championships– but what about the rest of the time? It is important to continue this enthusiasm and develop these PR strategies every year.
On a personal note, it is very exciting to see some of my former teammates compete at this high level of track and field. There are some of my USC and Florida teammates who are competing, and one has already won a gold medal! Congratulations to Kerron Clement for winning the 400 meter hurdles! 🙂
Hope you all are having a great day!
Best Wishes,
Karen
