Don’t “Bruin” your life… or your Baklava!: A baklava tribute to the USC Trojans
One of the things that we do each year at the University of Tennessee is have an end of the semester potluck – and this is what we are planning to do this year. Each of us is supposed to bring in something to eat, and of course I knew what I was going to bring – dessert! But the question is, what would it be? Amarula Carrot Cake Cupcakes? Cheesecake? Mudbars? So many decisions, so little time! But ultimately, I decided on a Freberg classic recipe that my Dad created and is legendary among my friends and family – baklava!
Dad’s recipe is just absolutely amazing – it is a huge hit whenever I make it. However, this time, I made a slight addition to the Baklava recipe. In the original recipe, there are three types of nuts – pistachios, almonds, and pecans – but this time, I added Brazil nuts. The result has been absolutely fabulous and will definitely be included in the future. With all of these various types of nuts, the price of making baklava can get pretty pricey due to the fact that nuts are on the expensive side. However, it is important to make sure that you have the right ingredients and take the time to make a fabulous product.
This is why I am calling this “Trojan Baklava” – in dedication to the USC-UCLA Football game tonight. It is going to be late tonight for me since I am on the East Coast, but it is so worth it! Best of luck to Pete Carroll and the rest of the USC Football team. Fight on!
