I realized that it has been a while since I last posted– I can sum it all up into one word– statistics! 🙂 What can I say, I’m a doctoral student! 🙂  Anyway, I had written previously on Operation Raw Deal, which was one of the biggest drug busts that WADA had participated so far.  Anyway, there was an interesting article that appeared on BBC News that stated that WADA wants to continue to target athletes, coaches, and other individuals involved in athletics.  But they have a new target they are focusing their efforts on:  scientists.

Why you ask?  Well, they are the ones that are developing these steroids!!  They have the knowledge, facilities, and experience to develop these drugs for athletes, and they always seem to stay a few steps ahead of the authorities. But this is a good move for WADA in many ways.  First, they are targeting the source of where the steroids are coming from.  If they focus their energies in making sure that these labs and scientists are busted, they will have an easier time to find out the athletes and coaches that are on their client list.  Look at the BALCO scandal and how that developed.  By targeting the source and the heart of where steroids are developed, WADA will have more control over this crisis that has plagued athletics for too many years.

Another point that I have noticed that WADA is promoting during this time is the fact that they have increased the number of years athletes could possibly be banned from the sport.  They increased the number from two years to four years.  Personally, I think that if you are caught once, that is it!  Finished!   Out of the sport.  This goes for not only athletes, but coaches, suppliers, and anyone else.  No one should continue to participate in a sport when they do not compete fairly.  It is not right to the athletes that do the hard work and have the talent to succeed.

Anyway, these are just a few of my thoughts on the subject. 🙂  Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
