It is always interesting talking with my friends that have blogs – most of them use them for their personal uses and discuss issues that are relevant to them. Both Mom and Dad have their own blogs, and I have had mine now for about three years – amazing how time flies by! I enjjoy reading about brain worms and glowfish on Mom’s blog, and become very envious of all of the fabulous dishes that my Dad prepares and writes about.

Of course, in PR – we talk about how bloggers are an important public to consider when launching a new campaign.  However, there are many other benefits for having a blog.  Recently, Newt Berrett wrote about six reasons why a blog is your most important social media tool.  I have to agree with Mr. Berrett on the importance of having a blog.  I know that since I have had my own personal blog, it has been very beneficial for me both personally and professionally.

Professionally, I have made some connections and contacts with others that have looked at what I have written on my blog.  In terms of personal reasons, it has allowed me to express my thoughts and opinions on various topics from public relations to travel (South Africa to China and now to Amsterdam and Greece) to family and friends.  Plus, it is an outlet that I use to improve my writing.  I am a firm believer that learning and writing is not just for the classroom – we are all life-long learners, and we can use blogs to accomplish this.

So, I would suggest that if you do not have a blog – definitely sign up for one! 🙂  Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
