It has been another fun, engaging, and memorable week in college football for the teams and those individuals who work behind the social media scene. We have seen some amazing plays, games, and execution of storytelling and visuals this week. There are so many teams out there to look at for inspiration and ideas for how to strategically use social media.

For this week, here are some teams I felt did a truly amazing job. Here are the ones that truly stood out to me this week for a variety of reasons:

Clemson: Themed Week #Mottos
As I mentioned in previous posts before, Clemson can do no wrong when it comes to their creative storytelling and execution. They are the team that has set the standard really high this year. Across the board, love their content, but what I love about what they did this week (and last week) is their themed motto (and it’s a hashtag!!) they share on social media. This really helps set not only the tone for the week, but the mindset and culture the team and fan base want to embrace before the game even happens. I think this was pretty cool to see.

Michigan: Integrated Execution of Images + Brand
UM did a truly amazing job this week again with their visuals and how they integrated this throughout the game. They captured a lot of different perspectives for the team, but also the fans and overall atmosphere. Plus, I love their updates and any update that has awesome execution of emojis with personalized branded gifs are winners in my book!

Another great recap from the team can be viewed here.

Army: Visual storytelling
My older sister Kristin went to West Point and I am thrilled to see the Black Knights winning their first two games! I felt they did also a great job in visually sharing their story – and they too have used Adobe Slate to share their game day recap. Looks like Clemson has set the standard and trend here for the sports community!

Georgia: Video and Design
As Jessica Smith shared this with the #SMSports community – Georgia is one of the best at visual communication and storytelling for sports. Love their hype videos, and their GIF for their scores was pretty sophisticated

Tennessee: Bringing their A game to the biggest crowd ever in football
I have to say – it was awesome to see Tennessee not only win – but break the record for the biggest crowd at a football game! They played their game against Virginia Tech at the Bristol Speedway for #BattleAtBristol to a crowd of over 150,000 people. Now that’s a football game!

University of South Florida: Thanking the fans aka “our family”
Not only did USF create some great player, game, and team branded images, they also thanked their fans in a great way as well. I think it’s so important to not only share visuals and stories related to what your team is doing at the game, but also think about the fans as well. I think this was one of the best I have seen this week from a team. Well done, USF!

Summary & What Happens Next
Overall, I think some of the best content creation and execution is happening in college sports. It’s awesome to see and I know all of the social media and sports teams are really working hard to set the standard for everyone in the industry and for their teams. I really respect that and you all are doing an awesome job. Keep up the great work!

On another note, it’s a pretty exciting time here in Louisville because for the first time in our program history, we are going to be hosting College Game Day when we play Florida State next week. Very exciting and you can be sure that there will not only be a battle on the field, but on social media as well. Looking forward to seeing what happens!
