Chicago from up on high!

Here is what I am reading today:

“Facebook is experiencing a topsy-turvy year. The social network has reached nearly 1 billion users worldwide, yet reports have suggested its growth in the U.S. has slowed. With much fanfare it went public in May, but its stock price has fallen to new lows. After some brands’ executives questioned the effectiveness of Facebook advertising—chiefly General Motors—the website Digiday pondered this week whether the social network is suffering an image problem. “

“The 2012 Olympics may be over, but the Olympic stats are still rolling in.  This afternoon, YouTube has released statistics showing how the Olympic games played out on YouTube. The YouTube Team reports that, “When we started preparing for the Olympics last year, we prioritized two things: giving you a front-row experience, and serving you video at the best quality possible.  You responded in a huge way.””

“Natural thought leaders are perhaps the most powerful force shaping opinion within any community. They inform and inspire others because these unofficial emissaries are respected and trusted by their peers. How does a company identify such supporters? As Deirdre Walsh, Senior Social Media Manager at Jive Software, points out, “It is the job of the community manager to identify effective volunteer advocates. Without these foot soldiers, the community will not take flight.””

“With more and more social networks popping up over the years, marketers continue to ask, “why do we need another one?!” Truth is, each network (at least the ones that last) truly does serve its own purpose, because they each have a distinct audience! But instead of sitting down and trying to figure out which is right for your business … let’s just have a little fun?”

My sister offers some excellent advice!
