We have all seen the Apple commercials that feature the Mac guy and the PC guy. Usually, the commercial portrays the Apply guy to be young, chic, and has sophisticated skills, while the PC guy looks to be outdated, slow, and not as “hip” as the Apple guy. However, this may change with the announcement coming from Microsoft. Microsoft has announced that that are implementing a new marketing and advertising campaign that will feature high profile celebrity endorsers such as Jerry Seinfield with Bill Gates.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out among customers and other target audiences for both companies. Apple is perceived by many as being the company that targets the younger generation with its unique software features, music features (ex. iTunes), and various design programs. However, Microsoft does have their new operating system with Vista, but they have had some issues with the program. It is perceived to have some technical programs, and this has impacted Microsoft’s sales. What Microsoft needs to consider is to find out why people think this way, where they are getting their information from, and what they can do as a company to address these issues. It is good that they are adapting their advertising and marketing strategies to manage their brand image and reputation- it’s going to be interesting to see if it makes an impact for them.

Apple seems to keep rising and it’s overall brand perception and corporate personality is positive among its target audiences, so Microsoft has a challenge ahead to catch up. I got myself a Mac last year when I started the Ph.D. program at Tennessee, and I absolutely love it! It has great features and it is really easy to use. I still have my PC computer as well– so sometimes I go back and forth. Technology is great! 🙂

Hope you all are having a great day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen
