This summer is going to be a super busy travel schedule for me, and I began the start of the conference season to head up to Toronto, Canada. We are just about to start final exams at the University of Louisville, so this trip was very quick (not even two days).

The conference I attended this past weekend was the World Social Marketing Conference.  I think this is a great conference for not only marketing professionals, but also communication professionals as well.  While I have done work in health (primarily food safety), this was my first time at a conference like this.  I feel I walked away with a lot of insights, perspectives, and ideas of not only what social marketing is as a field, but what are some of the growing issues and opportunities we see in the field on a global level.

I presented some research I did with one of my colleagues at the University of Louisville, Lindsay Della, and it was received very well. We were right on target with some of the emerging trends we are seeing right now and how they are being applied in public health circumstances. Our study looked at emerging trends that were happening in corporate regarding emerging media and then looking at particular campaigns emerging from public health in the same way. We offered our best practices and implications regarding all of these components in our study as well. It was a fun project to work on! 🙂

It was also very cool to see how much of an international representation we saw at the conference. Over 500 conference presenters, attendees, and speakers were at the event from over 40 countries. Wow!

Overall, I had a great time in Toronto and at the conference.  Canada is a great country and the conference organizers and staff members were very kind. Thank you for making my time in Toronto enjoyable!

Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
