It appears whenever you look online, there is a new app being launched.  Some have distinct characteristics and features to them that separates themselves from the rest of the crowd (ex. Instagram with photo editing and sharing), while there are others who realize that the future for apps is the seamless integration and partnership hub to host multiple social media platforms in a centralized location.  Well, we do have an app that does this to create mini stories through both photos and videos – and this app is called Ptch.

Before I talk about the app, I have to send out a special shout out to my fellow PR colleague from Auburn University, Robert French.  Robert was the first person I know who was talking about Ptch in the PR community on Facebook and was very generous in sharing his insights about the new app.  The PR community is very lucky to have such great resources and professionals in the field like Robert – thanks for sharing these great trends with the PR social media community!

I first wrote a blog post about Ptch back in July when it was first introduced and released as a new app. There is great potential and possibilities for public relations professionals – both in the profession as well as academically – with this new app. So, how have I been using this app that has truly captured the concept of “living media?”

  • Sharing stories and highlights from conferences:  This is what I did for my trip to Milan this past May.  I was able to show my adventures being on the roof of the Duormo to experiencing the cuisine of Italy, I was able to capture all of this in just about a minute of screen time. In addition, I was able to create one from our AEJMC Conference just a few weeks ago as well.
  • Creating mini ptchs as resumes:  Agencies are always looking for new ways to look at possible employees.  This is a great app that allows uses to show who they are through pictures and short video clips that can be styled in various ways with music.
  • Highlight major personal events:  Graduations and promotions are just on the short list for this category, but I was able to create a Ptch from Kristin and Scott’s wedding this past June in Orlando, FL.  We took so many pictures at the event, it was hard to determine which ones to use!  That may be one reason to create several ptchs to make sure each event has their own ptch (ex. wedding ptch, reception ptch, bachelorette ptch, etc).
  • Featured tours and experiences:  We had a chance to take a tour of the Edelman Digital Offices in Chicago when we were in Chicago for AEJMC.  I wanted to create a mini story of some of the various presentations we went to along with the overall atmosphere of the building.

In summary, Ptch is definitely the wave of the future when it comes to the convergence of multiple social media platforms into one location – which makes them not only user-friendly, but an innovator in the mobile app community.  Many possibilities and potential opportunities can arise with this new app – so I highly recommend you all to check it own and download it off of iTunes (only available at this point on the iPhone).

Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
