It has been a couple of months since I did my public relations internship in Cape Town, South Africa.  I am still amazed that I actually was there!  It seems like forever since I was at Total Media and in the “Rainbow Nation”– it is amazing how time flies!  As a doctoral student, there seems to be not enough hours in they– so I guess that is why I feel like it has been a long time since I was in SA.

Anyway, I thought that I would post on some of the “must-dos” to do if you are in South Africa.  It is such a wonderful place and I met some absolutely amazing people– my friends Ethel, Astrid, Michelle, and everyone at Total Media.  It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  So, here are some of the places that you just have to go to and see if you are in South Africa:

Table Mountain:  Table Mountain is one of the landmarks in Cape Town, and the view up top is absolutely worth everything!  I went up the mountain with my friend Ethel and I was so amazed with the view of Cape Town.  They have trails up there as well if you don’t want to take the cable car (but it takes you a LONG time to get up there!)  But I really recommend that you go up! Table Mountain is SO worth it! 🙂

Robben Island:  A big part of South African history happened at Robben Island.  It is a definite must do when you get a chance to go to South Africa.

Wine Country of Stellenbosch:  The food and wine industry in South Africa is really great!   We got a chance to take a wine tour of Stellenbosch and go to some of the wineries down there.  It was really neat to see how they make the wine and taste some of it.  I am not a drinker, but I did taste some of the wine and I have to say that it was really good! 🙂

Food, food, and more food!: There are so many wonderful places to eat in South Africa– I was really happy that I didn’t gain 50 lbs when I was there!  Jenny would be so sad! 🙂  I got a chance to eat at some amazing places such as Forty Ate, Cafe Mao, Five of Flies, and Madame Zingara!  I really miss all of the ostrich meals! 🙂 What is really neat is that I got a chance to show my family some of the meals that I had in South Africa by suggesting to Dad to get one of the cookbooks— he has really enjoyed it, especially bobotie! 🙂

Kruger National Park:  This is an absolute must!  What an amazing park!  We got to see four of the big five animals when we were down there (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, and water buffalo).  It was really amazing because we got to go on a safari and camp out and have braii (bar-b-que South African style).  It was SOOOO much fun!!! 🙂  An experience that you will never forget!

So, next time you are thinking about going somewhere exotic and a fantastic place– South Africa is the place to go!!!  🙂  I will never forget my experience and time in SA! 🙂

Hope you all are having a great day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen
