Among my friends and colleagues, there are certain characteristics they have all agreed upon about me.  One, I consider coffee a major food group (have to thank the PhD program for that and coming from a family of coffee drinkers myself :)).  And two, I heart social media.  However, like coffee, social media does run in the Freberg family.

I guess you can call our family a social media focused family. 🙂 Mom and Dad have their great blogs where they write about their cooking adventures and latest recipes, upcoming conferences and launches of new textbooks (Mom’s Intro book with John Cacioppo is absolutely fabulous – check out their page!), and family adventures.  Kristin writes about her cooking recipes, event planning, and preparations for her upcoming wedding (just in a few weeks – so exciting!).  Karla actively contributes to her page with her latest animations and artwork.

So, since my family and I are so active in social media, it makes sense we use it in our work (ex. teaching and consulting) as well as in our research.  I actually had the chance to work with my Mom (aka “The original Dr. Freberg”) again and presented a poster at APS on how to use social media in the classroom for teaching and research opportunities. Mom represented our work this year in a Twitter shirt (totally fabulous!) and did a wonderful job!  Here is her video from APS about the goal of our poster:

I am sorry that I was not able to make it this year, but I was in Milan for the Reputation Institute annual conference.  APS has definitely been one of my favorite conferences to go to over the years and they are always cutting edge with the latest with social media.  They had a conference app before my PR conferences had them!  Amazing. 🙂  APS and Wray Herbert do an amazing job and I really do enjoy meeting up with my Psychology friends and colleagues.

It was fun collaborating with Mom again on a research project as well as addressing each other as “Dr.” and “Dr.”  like the movie “Spies like Us” with Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd.  Classic!

Congratulations again to Mom on a great interview at APS about our work and hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
